Deliveroo commission in the UK is set restaurant by restaurant in your partner agreement, so there's no public rate card. Deliveroo's published terms say the fee is a percentage of the order value including VAT, with VAT added on top. The one rate they name is 35% plus VAT, for own-delivery partners using Deliveroo riders (checked October 2026).
That makes Deliveroo harder to compare than Just Eat, which publishes its rates. This article sets out what is public, what isn't, and how to work out what you're really paying.
Why doesn't Deliveroo publish its commission?
Deliveroo's partner website says it charges "a commission on completed orders" but gives no percentage, and sends new partners to a sales conversation instead. Rates depend on your location, your volume, the service you choose and any promotions you sign up for.
Deliveroo has also changed hands. DoorDash completed its acquisition of Deliveroo on 2 October 2025. Nothing public has changed the UK fee structure since, but it's another reason to read the current agreement rather than rely on older articles.
What do Deliveroo's partner terms say about fees?
Deliveroo's UK partner terms (checked October 2026) describe the fees for each service in the same way: a percentage of GMV (the order value, including VAT) per order, plus VAT at the prevailing rate.
The services you'll see named are:
- Core delivery: Deliveroo's riders collect and deliver.
- Marketplace+: you deliver with your own riders and can set your own delivery fee and minimum order.
- Pick-up: the customer collects from you.
The only percentage in the published terms is in the rider terms for Marketplace+ partners: when Deliveroo's rider network is switched on, the Marketplace+ fee "shall be adjusted to 35% (plus VAT)" of the order value, unless you agree something different in writing.
So 35% plus VAT is a real, published figure, but it applies to one situation. Your core delivery, Marketplace+ and pick-up rates are whatever your own agreement says.
How does VAT affect Deliveroo commission?
Two things stack up here, so it's worth going slowly.
First, the percentage is worked out on the order value including VAT. Second, VAT at 20% is then charged on the commission itself.
Say a customer orders £25 of food and your rate is 35%. This is a hypothetical example using the one published rate:
| Amount | |
|---|---|
| Order value (incl. VAT) | £25.00 |
| Commission at 35% | £8.75 |
| VAT on commission at 20% | £1.75 |
| Deliveroo takes | £10.50 |
| You receive | £14.50 |
That's 42% of the order before you reclaim any VAT. If you're VAT-registered you can usually claim back the £1.75 as input tax. If you aren't, it's gone.
How do I find my real Deliveroo commission rate?
Because there's no rate card, your invoices are the best source. Deliveroo's help centre explains that each weekly invoice shows your total revenue, the commission charged, extra fees such as refunds and customer credit, and any rebates owed to you. You can download them as PDF or CSV from Partner Hub for up to 12 months.
To get your effective rate:
- Take one month of invoices.
- Add up everything Deliveroo deducted: commission, VAT on commission, refunds you paid for, and any marketing or promotion charges.
- Divide by your total order value for the month.
The answer can come out higher than your headline commission, because refunds and promotion charges sit on top of it. Do it once a quarter. It's the only way to know whether Deliveroo is still earning its place.
Is Deliveroo worth the commission?
For plenty of restaurants, yes. Deliveroo puts you in front of people who are hungry, nearby and ready to pay, and in some neighbourhoods it's where most delivery customers look first. Its riders also save you the cost and hassle of running your own delivery team.
What it doesn't do is make a regular customer cheaper to serve. Someone who has ordered from you ten times costs you the same percentage on the eleventh order as on the first.
A fair way to think about it:
- Pay Deliveroo for new customers. That's what the commission buys.
- Win the repeat orders back. Regulars who know your food can phone you or come in.
- Watch your cancellations. Deliveroo's partner policies say that when you're responsible for a cancelled order, you're still charged your standard commission plus VAT.
How can I reduce what I pay Deliveroo?
You can't change the rate without negotiating, but you can change how many orders go through it.
- Put your phone number in every bag. A printed menu with your number does more than any app promotion.
- Fix your Google Business Profile. People searching for food nearby see your hours, photos and a call button. Make sure the number is right.
- Have a simple website. One page with your menu and a big "call to order" button is enough for most takeaways.
- Review promotions. Paid placements and discounts on Deliveroo are optional. Check whether they bring new customers or just discount people who'd have ordered anyway.
At Pop-Up we build that website for you and look after your Google profile, so the people who already love your food have an easy way to call you instead of the app.
Frequently asked questions
What percentage does Deliveroo take from restaurants?
Deliveroo doesn't publish a standard UK rate. Its partner terms describe a percentage of the order value including VAT, plus VAT. The only rate named is 35% plus VAT for own-delivery partners using Deliveroo riders. Your rate is in your agreement.
Is Deliveroo commission charged with VAT?
Yes. Deliveroo's partner terms say the fee is calculated on the order value including VAT, and then VAT at the prevailing rate (20% in the UK) is added. VAT-registered businesses can usually reclaim the VAT on the fee.
How often does Deliveroo pay restaurants?
Deliveroo's help centre says payments cover a Monday to Sunday week, are calculated and authorised weekly, and arrive by bank transfer. Invoices are emailed each week and kept in Partner Hub for up to 12 months.
Who owns Deliveroo now?
DoorDash completed its acquisition of Deliveroo on 2 October 2025. Deliveroo still operates under its own name in the UK, with its own partner terms.
Does Deliveroo charge commission on cancelled orders?
According to Deliveroo's partner policies, if you're responsible for a cancellation you're still charged your standard commission plus VAT. If Deliveroo is responsible, it still pays you for the order.
